Possible to exchange the glass between two identical panels?
Alright, so I have two LCD panels for my Thinkpad T23. One has a working panel, but the glass that covers it is horribly scuffed up due to my keyboard coming loose and rubbing against it. The other one has a cracked panel, but the covering glass is just about flawless. I would really like to interchange the glasses so i have the good one on the working panel and the crappy one on the cracked panel, is this possible? Looking at the back of one of them, it seems to be possible to take the panel out of the enclosure where just the glass would be, but I would like to be sure before I go ahead and do this, since I could hose two LCD panels.
They're both LG panels, part # LP141X10
Thanks

NO!!!
Do not open displays, the insides are toxic!
The scuffs are in the plastic that covers the display, not in the glass itself.
Get a 3M microfiber cloth and polish the display lightly, should remove most marks.
Regards,
James

There have beena few people that have opened the LCDs to be able to remove the light spots or dirt from between the layers. The one thing to really remember is that if you open it, you need to be in a VERY clean space. I believe that I read that it is recommended to do it in a bathroom with the shower running, because the humidity would reduce the amount of dust and particles that float around and might settle in the LCD.

Removing an LCD display from a housing in order to get at the backlight is one thing, separating the differing layers of the display itself is quite another!Orevin wrote:Well, I opened quite a lot of LCD displays to change the backlights and I stillll fffeelll verrry wellll.

Just open the LCD, clean the polariser plastic sheets and potentially replace the old backlight lamp with a new one.
Use a nice small vacuum cleaner to keep dust off.
that's all, there is absolutely nothing toxic about it.
If the front is scratched there is not much you can do, just try to use a glossy screen protector to make everything smooth. using scrubb stuff to remove the scratch makes it much worse.
The OP was referring to opening up the LCD PANEL ITSELF! I.e., attempting to separate the "sandwich".beeblebrox wrote:What a nonsense!!!

NOT simply opening up a display assembly/lid to change a backlight.
The liquid portion of a Liquid Crystal Display is most assuredly toxic.
