A22m backlight and screen

#1 Post by wesley/g » Sat Mar 18, 2006 11:14 pm

I've been searching the web and here for the past few weeks looking for the solution to my problem. Couldnt find anything as specific as mine or that seemed to fit so I joined and here I am. I recieved this thinkpad free from where I work because the screen went bad and they have no use for a small desktop computer you can make out of it. I said sure I would love it! So i've taken it apart several times, reseated everything dealing with the video, and I believe i've narrowed it down, but before I buy anything I want to make sure. Now, im not sure the name of the part, but it connects the cord to the screen and backlight to the mainboard. It also has the lid switch, led's, and what appears to be the processor fan attached to it. Considering that all of those parts work, I dont think that is the part causing the problem. I take the screen apart, and put a flashlight behind it. The lcd shows many horizontal lines and more blank or black pixels. Playing around with the cord does nothing, and backlight is 100% off in the dark. My best guess is that the thin cord that connects that main board part to the backlight controller ( I think this is the inverter?) and splits up and connects into the lcd screen, is somehow broken somewhere. What else could it be and what should I do? Any input would make my day.

Edit: wanted to add an odd thing: I found the keyboard light on the top of the screen (using the same cord as the rest) works! I dont know if this means anything though.

Thanks in advance,
Wes

Wes,

You should download the A2* Hardware Maintenance Manual at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4PER6S.
