Keyboard's quality

#1 Post by kthch » Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:01 am

There is a big discussion in a German forum about the quality of the keyboard:

Made by IBM: high quality
Made by LENOVO: VERY poor quality

If the Lenovo keyboards are the same poor stuff as this one used in other
notebooks (HP, Siemens, Accer, ... ) what's the reason to buy a (Lenovo) thinkpad?

Well, if you do a search in the T60 and X60 forums; you will find that they are still shipping the Alps and NMB keyboards in the new Thinkpads. They aren't made by either IBM or Lenovo, just by companies that have been making keyboards for the Thinkpads for quite awhile now.

I find it pretty impossible that the quality on the new keyboards has gone down to the level of the mushy stuff on most HPs. :)

Well... When I was on the Cebit at the Lenovo stand (been there for almost 1 hour  ) I treid their new models, like the C300...

And the keyboards are not as good as IBM's ... rather at the level of an budget HP...

Having that said, the Z60, and T60 I used had good keyboards, and the X60s also felt sturdy :)

Oh wait a second, we are talking about the 3000 series from Lenovo? Well then, I have even less information on that.

But if you do a search of the forum, and it goes pretty quick on this topic, you will get a post with a link to an off-site review. In that review, they stated that the keyboard was like a Thinkpad and a "godsend;" although it was only one review and the review may have missed other things that might be thought of as inconsistencies. I actually would like to try out a 3000 Series notebook from Lenovo and see how it goes.

HTH :)

Mushy?

I am a keyboard stickler who knows they will never match the 600x board in quality and usability, but my new X60 has a very good subsize keyboard which is among the best I have used in recent years... its certainly better than many of the T series boards and better than some of the X series boards I have used or tried...

This is a very good machine... the design, build and feel are all very high quality and better than most of the IBM machines prior to the Lenovo sale... the new company is clearly trying very hard... those who are finding faults might need a little more going on in their lives ;)
