Dimm slots

#1 Post by Imran » Sat Jul 24, 2004 12:51 pm

Hi

could any tell me where the dimm slots are located on the t41 AND T42,
for extra memory to be placed.

are they underneath and easy to get to? meaning is it a job where u unscrew a compartment underneath, pop in the ram and close and bob your uncle or do you have to start opening the thinkpad apart?/

Thanks

Imran

The Hardware Maintenance Manual from ibm will show you that.
There are links directly to them in the FAQ (number 8, I think):

The second DIMM is located as you describe (though my uncle is not bob - but my step-father is :? ). But to get to the first DIMM you need to takeout the keyboard.
X21 (upgrade: 384MB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
T42 2378-DXU (upgrade: 1.5GB ram 60GB 7200rpm)
Z60m 2531-MTU (upgrade: 2GB ram)

FYI if you buy a T4* with less than the maximum memory (a normal course of events) IBM will have mounted the memory board in the slot under the keyboard - therefore if you are simply adding to what was originally supplied, all you have to do is refer to the HMM as HUMPA suggested, and the procedure will be explained in laborious detail:- how to undo a small screw, lift off a small metal cover, and slip the board into the second dimm slot on the underside of the laptop.
