Can an A31 boot without the battery?

#1 Post by Dave Gordon » Mon Mar 20, 2006 4:57 am

Hi all,
When I remove the battery, but still have it connected to the mains power, I cannot boot the machine. Does this mean there is a problem with my CMOS battery?

On a seperate note, I'm getting various system freezes and boot problems (even with the battery attached) and fom reading though the forums it seems this could be one of the causes.

Many thanks in advance
Dave

It's supposed to, but in case of a power surge, your laptop won't be protected without battery.

If it supposed to boot without the battery, what could be the source of the problem?

Urban legend.

The laptop's battery serves NO purpose as a surge protector.

It's not even part of the circuit path when on AC.

That's the first thing I would do to diagnose this problem, change the CMOS battery.
