Ctrl, Alt, Delete on Startup?
Ctrl, Alt, Delete on Startup?
Does anyone know how to disable this on startup? I don't really need to do this and it takes forever for the security chip to get to that screen. It seems to slow startup by about 5 minutes... Anyways, I just want to go back to the original windows startup screen with the icons for the users...how can I get that done? Thanks so much!

You can disable it via the Thinkpad Fingerprint Software program; simply tell it to not replace the Windows logon with it. Also, it doesn't have anything to directly do with the security chip nor is it primarily an exclusive function of the security chip; i.e. you can disable the security chip and still use the fingerprint reader as you would normally except for those functions of which depend on the security chip.
Also, you said it slowed bootup by *5 minutes* ?
That is a pretty long time to delay; if you want, you can also take a look at what processes are starting up and get rid of the ones you don't use to reduce that time. I get around 37-35 second cold boot-up times.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I don't have a fingerprint reader on my T42p...it came out after I got mine. I guess I'm not sure how to disable it. Could you walk me through what to do and how I could speed my startup? I think if I could disable the computer from "checking for embedded security chip" or whatever it does before it fiiiinnaalllyyy gets to the ctrl, alt, delete and password start-up, then it would cut the start time by a lot. It still takes a while to get situated and ready to go even after all the password stuff. Anyways, thanks for your help.
Ctrl, Alt, Del is controlled by the group policy of Windows XP, to turn it off, go to Start, Run and type in gpedit.msc. Go to computer configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options. On this page, you will see a line named:
Interactive Logon: do not require Ctrl + Alt + Del, if this line is Disable, then you are required to press ctrl-alt-del to logon, Double click the line and change it to Enable to remove this requirement.
