WTB: ThinkPad T43p 2668-G2U advice needed

#1 Post by myrighteye » Tue Mar 21, 2006 3:37 pm

I want to purchase this model. Lenova website had a recent sale on this one, someone is offering to sell it to me for $1700 Brand new. Any opinions on deal or not? I'm on the fence between this one and a T60 which would cost me about $600 more. I can't decide, but the T43p is tempting at that price?

Actually, Lenova had a St. Pattys sale. This system was going for 1999.00 excluding taxes and shipping. So, I figure i'm saving around $400 off, but the T60 tempting as well.

Well unless the T60 you are speaking of is a T60p (and for a few hundred more it likely isn't) I would buy the T43p for $1700 delivered and be a happy boy/girl for several years. We sometimes make the mistake of buying what OTHERS are impressed by and not what we NEED. If that T43p is even a wee bit more than what I needed right now I would go that way. Why buy a T60p that you have to grow into, when by the time you've reached that point the T62p's are out and you could buy that T60p for much less? Now if the T43p is going to be struggling soon at the work you'll be throwing at it, well, then I'd save up my pennies for a T60p and buy that soon (hopefully from Bill should he get some soon). Otherwise, buy the least costly option that will meet your needs out for the next year and save the rest in a 1-year CD @ 5.5%. No, I am not a financial advisor, but I heard that on TV just now so it has to be the truth.

thanks for the advice Brain, you've swayed me towards the T43p. It's more than enough power for my work applications, and from what I've been reading, the T43p should run Vista fine with Aero. I just don't know if I'll ever miss not getting that dual core T60. I plan on keeping my next notebook for at least 3 years, use the full warranty up.

hey mr. righ eye - I hate to use a hackneyed cliche, but that price sounds 'too good to be true.' I would be VERY cautious and suspicious. get a serial number. only use a credit card to pay for it. talk to the seller on the phone. etc.

I am an eBay seller and could tell you MANY stories about 'great deals' on nice laptops.
