HELP - My brand new R51.......

#1 Post by matt millard » Wed Mar 22, 2006 3:59 am

will not come out of standby or hibernation unless I hold down the power button and switch off, then reboot. I have downloaded all the latest drivers from IBM and have auto-update on windows. IBM suggest a clean re-install but it has taken me a week to get the machine how I want it. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Dunno about standby, but when the computer hibernates, it is off, and it will only come back once you press the power button.

Try disabling auto-updates, for starts.

Thanks for your help.

Assuming that your running Windows XP , Check power
options under "Contol Panel". I havent used Windows XP Home but i guess
for Power options the scenario remains the same. To make your ThinkPad
goes to Stand by mode, just fold your thinkpad . I mean opened screen
move back to packed position. There is a small black tap close to
"Access IBM" blue button makes sure your ThinkPad is in Stand By
mode. Also check BIOS . There is nothing much to do there, i suggest you
to update your BIOS's version for the respective model.

If you are sure that you have absolutely NO spyware & vius...

then go to control panel, go to power options,

then see if your hibernation is enabled.

truly, i have no idea myself. i think it's virus.

yeah factory install. it will take several discs to copy your personal files--> done.

my friend ordered a R51 yesterday... o o

Let's try to get more details about the problem.

How do you normally get the computer to standby? Do you press the standby key combination? Do you close the lid? Does it just do it after idling for a while?

Same questions about hibernation.

Do you let the PC go into standby to save battery life?

If the PC is hibernating what happens when you press the power button to power it back on?

Hello Dr St.

I normally use function fn and F4 to go into standby. Otherwise i close the lid. Either way, thre machine still will not come out of standby mode.

To go into hibernation, i use fn and F12. Same result though, no way to come out of hibernation.

Regards.

Matt.

OK.

What happens when the machine in on Standby and you press Fn+F4 to wake it up? Does it simply not respond? Does it appear to be doing something, but the screen stays blank?

When the machine is hibernating - what happens when you press the power button?

Exactly - in standby, i press the fn button and something seems to happen but the screen stays blank/black. i am going to check now to remind myself what happens in hibernation...
