IBM T41 will not power up on battery, but power up with AC

#1 Post by bigtiger » Wed Mar 22, 2006 7:36 pm

Hi, I am new here.

I just got an IBM T41 as a new machine (yes, it is new).

The machine worked but today when add two memories to the machine, I notice that the machine only works when AC is plugged in. When I unplug the batter, the machine powers off automatically.

does anybody have similar problems? I hope it is not the motherboard's problem.

I tried to unplug the machine to test if the surge protector is triggered on within the battery, it still does not work.
currently own X61S, T42, X31, Macbook Pro Unibody i5

Sorry to ask the obvious, but is the battery fully charged? You mentioned it is new so I assume you've probably started using it without letting it charge fully as recommended

:D yea if its that old (production wise) and new out of the box, the battery needs to get out of hibernation, lol

I had an R32 once that had a somewhat similar prob. On batt, if you power it up, it attempts to start but then just fails completely. Starting on AC was fine, and once you had it up and running it could run of battery OK. Turns out it was the motherboard.
