Ive had almost this exact same problem. Windows 2000 professional refused to let me install te drivers from the CD, always using the mf.inf (multi function PC card) driver in the system 32 folder. The CD also came with a configuration utility (setting up security, profiles and keys etc) which refused to work for a few days. but I reinstalled and now it works fine, so long as i dont unplug te thinkg from the PCMCIA slot.

The reason i think its a win 2000 issue is because when i booted with an XP OS I could select the correct drivers first time from the device manager. Make sure youve upgraded to the latest (and last) service pack and that your drivers are correct, then have another go. sorry i dont htink ive been very helpful, i suppose im just saying that Win 2K doesnt like wireless cards!:/
