Hibernate / Standby disappeared on my T42
Couple of days ago hiberate and standby ceased working / being available on my T42. I have no response from Fn-F4 or Fn-F12, and standby / hibernate are no longer options on my shut-down menu.
I reinstalled the power management drivers to the latest (v 1.33, I think?but it still doesn't work)
Help!!

Is this the preloaded XP OEM that came default with the thinkpad or is this a fresh install that you did on the box?
I (as well as many others) cannot get a fresh install of XP to get Power Management features going for the life of me. I've tried installing multiple drivers. (Search the Windows Section for related posts)
I believe it has something to do with the XP hotfixes that IBM may have done or otherwise it may have to do with some special uber-proprietary software drivers/scripts (other than those freely available to thinkpad users) that IBM may have included in the Preload that's not available via standard XP install.

my gf's is having the same problem. wont hibernate when the lid is closed. hotkeys dont do anything either. when going through IBM power management and "enable hibernation is clicked" it stays until i hit "apply". then it automatically unclicks itself. when going through windows is appears to stay. click "ok" and when i access the power manager again it has reverted back to previous settings. any answers yet?

Have you downloaded the latest power management driver and hotkey driver from IBM?
Same for a T43, had it, now it is gone.
Not sure what went wrong but I added Thinkvantage support to solve another mystery, my screen goes blip single colour (liek red, green, blue, black, white) and the t43 hangs. Until I deinstalled the Intel 900 Video driver it kept randomly - 5 seconds or 5 minutes after logon, but hang it did anyways. Will post a separate record on that. Quality gone out of fashion???
Lost hibernate tab, update
One thing I noticed whils struggling with my video driver hang was, when I disabled the device or the driver, removing the hang, the power manager also lost the tab. I upgraded the BIOS to latest version and tried to run with video-driver, and yes the tab came bck but so did the lockup. Remove driver, and tab disappears, wonder if anyone sees any connection here?

I've had this problem before. If the laptop fails to hibernate for any reasons (i.e. driver won't shutdown, or some service refuses to properly halt) then you may end up with a corrupt hiberfile.sys. You need to reboot, disable hibernation, then reboot again and re-enable hibernation. This will create a new hiberfile.sys file and should allow you to hibernate again.
