I don't think the Radeon 7500 can handle DX9.
DX9 will install fine in Windows, but the video card won't be
able to use any DX9 features.
Maybe thats why it shows DX6.
I'm not 100% sure, though.

Does hl2 have a t&l requirement? I know that my T21 has dx9.0.

I ran into a problem trying to set someone up with a T21 because it met the initial requirements for Sims2. However, there is a note that the video card has to be able to meet certain t&l requirements.
