Your Opinion: Removing IBM default software

#1 Post by dcllee » Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:31 am

I got my X41 4 months ago. I love it, but I don't like a lot of the default IBM software that it comes with. Which ones are critical and which ones do you recommend I remove.

I like fingerprint and internet connection (AC), but besides that, the rest seems to just slow down my computer.

Give me your thoughts! Thanks!

I am wondering something similar to this. I have an X41 Tablet arriving tomorrow (according to UPS) and I have heard that it is best to run a clean install of Windows Tablet. I just don't know what I should add back on after the wipe.

Just did a re-install of everything on my X40 over the past few days and thi is my current set-up:

1. Presentation Director - good for me as I do quite a few presentations.
2. Active Protection - i just like the peace of mind that it brings

And that's about it. I used to use Access Connections all the time, but I decided to let Windows manage my wireless and wired connections and see how it goes (also because I couldn't get AC working after the re-install). Have to say: not bad at all. I'm usually either on my wireless @ home or via ethernet @ the office. No problem. I travel quite a bit, so I can see myself heading back to AC eventually.

What about the trackpoint software?

Also, the graphics adapter software? I use the schemes to make the screen lighter or give it greater contrast in difficult light situations.

Do you just remove the programs from add/remove?

And what if you want or need to put one back? Where do you find it?

Thanks.

Use the thinkvanatage software installer to install and uninstall. It's really easy to do. I played around with my software for a bit. I was having problems with the laptop hanging when it is coming out of standby. It's pretty safe to try whatever works for you. I think the trackpoint software is necessary for the middle (scroll) button to work properly.

I should have been more clear - sorry - I don't intentionally uninstall anything, but rather have chosen not to install, in this instance, Access Connections. Trackpoint, etc. is all there.
