Need help comp running slow, what processes can I get rid of?

#1 Post by jongordo8 » Fri Mar 24, 2006 7:36 am

So I have a T40 1.3 with radeon 7500 and 512mb of ram. Lately it has been running slow and cant seem to figure out why. I looked at the processes tab, and I have 50 running. My desktop only has 24 running, so I am curious as to why I have so many. I would appreciate if you would take a look at my processes list and let me know what I can get rid of. thanks in advance.

i have 59 and my laptop is running fast enough. The number of processes itself isn't that clear an indicator. More important is the memory and CPU each process is consuming during normal operation.

You should minimize any processes launching at startup. I use Tune Up utilities 2006 just because it does a few other things i need too (there's a 30 day trial - use it and uninstall it if you don't want to buy it)

You should also leave that process window open while you use your PC normally. Sort it on processor usage and watch which processes wake up often. Also sort it on memory after your PC has been running for some time, and see which are taking excessive memory. You should be able to identify the processes that are at fault. Use google to identify the owning programs.
