I Tried to update the embedded controller program on ThinkPad T-40 and all seemed to be going ok until reboot when i received error message saying: "power management disabled....operation terminated" or something like that and then the machine just shut down and now when i turn it on it shows the ThinkPad logo like normal and says "to interrupt normal startup press the blue access ibm button" like it always does but it just hangs there and does nothing. and when i press the access IBM button the message disappears like its supposed to which means something is still functional but it just hangs there
ive also tried holding down the F1 key during power up and it says "entering IBM BIOS setup utility" and just hangs there and does not continue.
is there anyway to make a boot disk that will re-attempt the embedded controller update and boot the computer when the bios does its hardware check and hits the floppy drive before it hits the embedded controller program?
or is there a way to reset it
in other words is there any possible way to fix this problem without replacing the system board?

my guess would be system board replacement... That sounds like a POST error, and would happen before the system even attempts to access a boot disk. Worth a try with some form of a boot disk, but I doubt it will do anything. I'd call IBM support and ask for suggestions now, since it's early in the day, and get a gameplan together before the weekend.

Embedded Controller Program Update FAILURE HELP!!!
I Tried to boot from cd but no luck
i eliminated the possibility of a bad hard drive by removing it all together along with the cd drive extra ram and any other removabe devices since it should at least boot to the bios setup without any of those but no luck just hangs at ibm logo still
