Replacing a hard drive

#1 Post by kidpaprika » Sun Jul 25, 2004 10:37 am

Hi

I'd like to replace the 20GB hard drive in my T23. I've noticed an IBM Travelstar 48Gb 5400rpm Laptop Hard Drive (Model. IC25T048ATDA05-0 48GH (07N7437)) going on eBay.

My question is, will this drive be compatible with my T23? Will it simply be a case of removing the old drive with a screw driver and sticking the new one in, or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks.

It is basically this simple. A couple of things:
1. If I were changing a drive like this, I would opt for the 60Gb 7200-rpm drive because it is so much faster and zippier.
2. For any drive, make sure you have the most recent firmware updates (IBM support site for your laptop model).
3. You should get (even if you have to pay for) the recovery CD's for your model. This will allow you to re-image including all regular and proprietary drivers. Otherwise, make sure you back up the IBMTOOLS folder on another machine.
Good luck. ... JDHurst
