Thinking about ThinkVision for Thinkpad
Thinking about ThinkVision for Thinkpad
Hi All,
Does anyone have anything to say about the ThinkVision line of IBM/Levano LCD monitors? I am thinking about getting one for a T42. I would like to keep everything "IBM" and black, but Dell is appearing more attractive with their low prices. What's your preference on LCD monitors?
Thanks

The ThinkVision line is pretty good for the smaller LCDs and the very large, very expensive, imaging LCDs that are used for imaging; such as the WQUXGA T221 which requires 2 to 4 DVI connections.
The Apple and the Dell Widescreens are cost effective and have some good points to be ad in their favor. Haven't yet had any problems with any of them.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I have a Samsung 17" LCD ( I believe it is the same LCD that Dell uses..). I love the thing...and it was not expensive at all, picked it up at CompUSA. Plus it is a dark colored case, so it should go well with the ThinkPad as opposed to other LCD's that tend to be silver, white or anything but a dark color........Plus the Samsung has a 3 year warranty, this includes the backlight as well as 24/7 support (never had to use it, so I can't comment on how good/bad their support is)

Another vote for Samsung. Had mine for about a year, and absoutely love it. Samsung is pretty well known for a low rate of dead pixels. Quality of the display is awesome.
Only bad thing is that I could only afford a 19", not the 30" wide screen Apple has

fWIW Consumer Reports rates some Samsungs highly. I know people who have the Dell 20" and 24" widescreens, and LOVE them. I know the 2005FP does Picture-in-picture, not sure about the 2405FP.
But IBM has a 20" (L201P), pivots, and has a higher resolution than most monitors in a) the price rance or b) the size. In my channel (YMMV), the price just went down about US$40. I like that.
Frankly, price no object, I'd consider the Dell 2405FP (second choice, 2005FP), or the IBM L201P. Depends on your application (I like to do Photoshop and Premier Elements, so the widescreen Dells are more appealing) ... 16:9 or 4:3 ratios are good for different reasons and applications. BTW, I think all these monitors pivot from landscape to portrait for DTP.
Happy hunting!
