AC Brightness

#1 Post by baehrlich » Sat Mar 25, 2006 2:54 pm

Even though the ThinkPad Default profile in the power manager says that the brightness stays at 7/7 when either on ac or battery, the screen definitely dims when the laptop is unplugged. Is there any way to keep the screen bright?

Yes. In the BIOS (F1 at startup), look for an option to set LCD brightness on battery. There should be two settigs - Normal and High. Set it to High. This can also be done via the Thinkpad Configuration Wizard.

Thanks, I found it in the configuration wizard.

I'm just curious...
Any esimtates on how much (batt) consumption is reduced when the LCD is in "normal" vs. "high" settings?

You can set up the experiment yourself. The Thinkpad battery monitor will show you the amperage and wattage drawn from the battery at a given moment. Try it at the same settings (preferably, as idle as possible and with WiFi off), once on "High", once on "Normal".
