Change German language software to English language software
Change German language software to English language software
My problem is that: I have purchased a Thinkpad T60 and due to misunderstanding beween the venture (with poor English) and myself (with poor German). English configuration meant to me English System, for him English keybaord. Store cannot change because keyboard changed, IBM says cannot provide English recovery CD because of Microsoft.
I need to know:
a) if there is any way to get an English recovery CD for a T60 2007 63G and would it load?
b) if I unload the software loader in ThinkVantage and reload one from the English site of IBM, and then unload the software specific to TP and then reload will it just reload the drivers, download German versions because it sees that XP is in German?
c) what is MS Net framework 1.1. German langauge pack and if I remove it will this put XP and the computer into English ... I doubt it but thought I would ask
have set English as default language, have tried updating (gives only the drivers)
any other ideas would be welcome
please help
thanks
ps if IBM reads this, I have been a long time TP user and have suggested it to a number of people, this is my first problem and must say I am sad to see that you have offered me no help other than to suggest that I buy a new computer or software for a machine only a few days old, under extended and international warranty.

I'll repeat here what I said in my reply to you in the NGs:
Not that you want to hear this but, the MS COA on the bottom of the machine is what decides what version of XP you'll get, US, UK, DE, etc.
There is almost nothing Lenovo EU can do about this.
My suggestion would be to run the Rescue and Recovery program and set English as the default language and keyboard layout, then install and run the Software Installer program from IBM/Lenovo US:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo
Run the program and it will download and install everything you're looking for, and it should be in English!
Have you tried setting your existing copy of XP to English as the default language, then run the XP and SI update processes?
If you have other copies of XP available in English, install one of them then run the IBM/Lenovo Software Installer. (There is a downside to using the SI in that it checks your machine type and serial number for choosing the correct updates and might revert the install to DE based on that information.)
Is there any program/utility you're specifically looking for in English? Perhaps we could send it to you.
Regards,
James

5.5K+ posts and all I've got to show for it are some feathers.... AND a Bird wearing a Crown
tried
I tried this ... I downloaded a new software downloader from the English IBM site, uninstalled the old one, loaded the new one, and deleted one file that was of no use to me (access help give in it in German) and reloaded it with the new software downloaders and it was still in German ... I figure I will have to reload XP with an English version, and then try ... however I hesitate to do this unless I know that it will work as I would just be making my life even more difficult if I ended up with xp but not the other software .... I have made an back of the drive with True Image but I have never used it so I do not know if it will bring the system back to it is now ... what is more (finally) I worry that if I reload xp I will delete the Thinkpad recovery partition ...
thanks for the help

The software installer cares only about the language of the os nothing else.JHEM wrote: install and run the Software Installer program from IBM/Lenovo US:

@Cassirer: Try to get the recovery CDs from other forum members. The CDs/DVD can be created with the R&R software, offer a paypal transfer.

Re: Change German language software to English language soft
.NET Framework is the basic software foundation for modern software, i.e. software which has been developed since 2001. Software older than from 2001 does not use .NET Framework. The German language pack is a set of resource strings for the foundation so you may e.g. answer "ja" instead of "yes" when using caspol.exe and the like.Cassirer wrote: c) what is MS Net framework 1.1. German xp to English
thanks ... and what happens if I remove the German version of .NET Framework ... as there is a second copy in English ... i.e. has MS taken their original English XP and simply added a language unit and thus the language unit can be replaced effectively changing the language? I doubt it, but figure I should ask.

If you just set the locale of your operating system for non-German the .NET Framework will operate in English.Cassirer wrote:thanks ... and what happens if I remove the German version of .NET Framework ... as there is a second copy in English ... i.e. has MS taken their original English XP and simply added a language unit and thus the language unit can be replaced effectively changing the language? change XP to English
O.k. how do I do that? When I go to the Software installer/uninstaller page in XP ... sorry but mine is currently in German and I forget the precise name ... I find three framework files:
1) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
2) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 German Language Pack
3) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (Kb886903)
I have installed Office Proffing Tools and the International Languages and have Office etc in English
o.k. where to I go from here
Thanks in advance

You configure the language for English in the regional settings control panel applet. I do not think you should remove any of the packages you've installed.
You could also install Virtual PC/Virtual Server and run a genuine English Windows XP under it.

THANKS
O.k. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH ... I change this and the IBM software change to English immediately ... you would have thought that IBM would have known this, could have suggested it ...
I have always liked the Thinkpad, and my new one is the best yet ... I work all day on the computer so it has to be sold, good keyboard, great screen and a good fan ... so for the hardware top marks. But for the service, for the way they treat a problem that does not fall into their legal definition of a problem ... this problem could have been solved in a few minutes with no cost to anyone ... for service, zero! And the only thing that is stopping me from saying what I really think is the code of conduct ... something about no bad language #(*&#@(&*# ... I hope that is acceptable
AGAIN THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ... I still have to figure out how to get rid of the German XP language pack but I am sure it will not be difficult

Re: THANKS
If the "IBM programs" are using the modern .NET Framework and are made according to the values of .NET, what I wrote will work.Cassirer wrote:O.k. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH ... If not, it may still work, but probably will not.
An OEM version of Windows Vista may not be a multi lingual edition, probably it's the same with Windows XP. If that's the case and you want to obtain English, you have to install a version of Windows XP including the English language with or without the computer itself.
