red screen with T23

#1 Post by choiyc » Sun Jul 25, 2004 4:00 pm

Hi,

I have a T23 with 1.2Ghz PIII.
When it comes out of standby, the whole screen is very redish for some time and then comes back to normal. It takes about a few minutes. Is my LCD going bad?
Resolution is 1400x1050.

Thanks,

yc

It's probably the backlight in the LCD that's going, that's not something that can be repaired either cheaply or easily so you'll probably want to check out your warranty status since IBM would probably be willing to fix a problem like that.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, this was a refurb unit and the warranty is long gone. Do you know what part I should buy from ebay?

:)

Oh well, if you can get hold of a dead screen (either xga or sxga+) with a good backlight, you could switch it over although I've never done it and I don't believe it's an easy process, the backlight can be removed and switched between screens with some careful disassembly work.

Otherwise, looking for another sxga+ screen for a T23 might be a good idea (I'm not sure, but I think the dell c600 uses an sxga lcd that would be compatible with the T23, but I can't confirm because there could be differences in the cable)

I guess it's also possible that the inverter could be on its way out (part number 10l1402) and it's a cheap and easy part to replace so it might be worth changing that over first.

It may also be worth waiting for a second opinion on this because I'm not 100% certain that this red screen problem is caused by the backlight but due to your description of it I think it might be. But it's worth waiting for someone that might know better to throw in their 2 cents :)

sounds to me like it is on the way out..

time for a new display..

this is why i do not recommend refurbs..

warranty is worth paying the additional cost..
