WiFi PCMCIA card for T20 ?

#1 Post by JVG » Mon Mar 27, 2006 2:47 am

Hello!

I want to add WiFi capabilities to my excellent working T20 and would like to get a PCMCIA card which works fine in Windows XP. Please, could you recommend one?

Thanks!

When I had a T20, I used a Linksys WPC54-G card & had excellent luck, it worked everywhere with no problems.

I also use the WPC54G card with "SpeedBooster". Haven't really noticed any speed boost, to be honest, but the card is reliable. Word of advice though is to bypass the software that ships with the card; just use "update driver" and point it to the drivers on the CD. If you install the Linksys software, you get a big clumsy interface that, IMO, sucks.

I was at Staples the other day and saw a Linksys WLAN-G card that boasted "RangeBooster". Not sure what your wifi situation is, but this would be handy if your own network goes down and you need to borrow some bandwidth from the neighbors.

Hope that helps,
Ryan

I have a 3com super G card (uses the Atheros chipset) that has a retractable antenna that I really like because I can just retract the antenna instead of removing the card when I pack the TP up.

I picked up a brandnew 3com 802.b wireless pc card with retractable antenna off ebay for 22US shipped to Canada, even though I have some problem pushing the antenna in sometimes, it's still a great buy, it has better reception than the dlink pc card I used and the retractable antenna is really neat.
If you want to pick up the same card, remember to update the driver. With the old driver, I had problem software disabling or repairing the wireless connection and the signal strength it reported was off.

Hello!

Following your comments, I bought a Linksys WPC54-G (well, really 4, as they were very cheap, about US$20 each, SHIPPED from UK to Spain) and, YES!, it worked fine at first try. GREAT!!!

Oher cards (2 of them) will go to a couple Itronix 6250 Pro "ruggedized" computers and the other one will be an spare, just in case

Now I can finally move my T-20 around my lab without depending on wires :D

Thanks for your help and best regards,

I use a cheap Minitar 11g card.

Flawless under XP and 2000 - one of the most painless devices I've ever used. And one of the cheapest.
