My new Z60m has a vertical dotted line only when I play any media files.
I tried Media Player, Real Player and a few others, it always happen in the same place: about 15% from left side of the player's window. Even if I resize player window or move the window arround, it will be alway at 15% from left side of the new window, so I know it's not LCD's probelm.
Interesting thing is it only happen when using battery instead of AC plug. In ATI's "Powerplay Settings" I choose "Optimal for Performance" when using batter (default is for battery) then the problem is gone.
Config of the machine is: Z60m, 1.86GHz, 1GDDR, ATI Radeon x300. I download the latest ATI driver from IBM already, DirectX version is 9.0C.
Is this a known problem? Could this be a hardware defect? Shall I return the machine? Thanks!

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums
Dead pixels are an LCD problem; if you have over a certain number, determined by an industry standard depending on what type of LCD matrix you have (i.e. SXGA+, UXGA, etc), then you can return it.
But if it only happens on battery, then they are not dead pixels and probably aren't stuck pixels either. If it happens all the time to any media file regardless of position and just if you are on battery or not, then you should probably have that checked out.

Re: "Dead Pixels" during movie playback with batte
When I underclocked my X600 below 100Hz/85Hz (Core/Memory, resp.), there appeared a similar, albeit horizontal, line when playing media files. Gradually got worse (with more lines, not only when playing files) the lower I went until it gave out at around 57Hz.
Didn't happen when I was using Powerplay, though (which went to 120/100), so that doesn't sound normal.
