Default gateway release problems

#1 Post by tokjdm » Mon Mar 27, 2006 10:10 am

The same problem appeared recently on two thinkpads (T43p and T42). I connect using the integrated wireless modem and then use a VPN connection. After terminating the VPN connection, I noticed that from time to there is no internet connection (no ping). The same problem appeared when connecting using a wireless phone card. After terminating the connection and reconnecting using either ethernet or wireless, internet connection is no longer available.
In both cases, when looking at the result of ipconfig, I noticed that the terminated connection (e.g., VPN) still appeared with the same default gateway address as the existing connection (e.g., wireless).
The only way to solve the problem is to reboot. ipconfig /release or just logging off has not effect.
If anyone had a clue.....

What is the VPN Client? I use the Juniper Netscreen client on my machine and on Client machines and releasing the VPN connection never bothers the basic internet connection. ... JD Hurst

I may not understand the question correctly but, on the Thinkpad side, both the VPN connection and the wireless phone card connection were set up with WinXP New Connection Wizard.
