Warranty Question

Getting a new T42.... also, the Thinkpad Protection.... normal Thinkpad Warranty’s are extendable for up to 5 years, but because the Protection Warranty only goes as far as four, the upgrade they sell is four years depot/four years protection. If I buy this, can I purchase the extra (fifth) year of depot separately? I don't see an option on the IBM site for one extra year of depot service.

I think the 4-year warranty extension only goes to 4 years. I don't think its original 1-year + 4 years... I think its 1-year extended to 4-years so you get 4-years total.

thats true, BUT the normal (non-protection) warranty goes to 5 years total... looking to see if you can just purhase the extra 1 year after you updrade to 4 years (total) depot = protection

So if your machine comes with a three year warranty, you can bump it up to a four or five year warranty. Is that right?

yes, any Depot or Onsite warranty (1 or three year), can be brought up to a maximum of five years. Nice thing is, you can buy it anytime up until your standard warranty expires. However, the "Protection"(damge) warranty is only sold for up to four years, must be the same length as your Depot or Onsite warranty, and must be purchased WITH the machine.
