X60s screen resolution after reopen lid and microphone issue

#1 Post by poky » Mon Mar 27, 2006 7:58 pm

This issue bothers me awhile.
I want to ask you guys, do you have the same issue?
I set the power setting to "Do nothing" when close lid.
but everytime when I reopen the lid, it changes my resolution of the screen(not really change, but you can see the desktop icons are different)
Unlike my X31, when I close the lid, it does nothing to my computer.
Any suggestions?

Thanks!

[Edit..]
Update...
I also found out that the microphone volume is way too low.
Even I turned it to max, still you can't barely hear anything, if you're not close to the right side of palmrest(where mic located.)
Hope this is also a driver issue...

Mine does the same thing. It must be a bug in the video driver or something.

Oddly it's only done that once. I haven't been able to reproduce it since yesterday.

Found it. It seems that closing the lid activates the presentation director. I disabled all the other modes and it seemed to solve the problem.

How did you do this? When I open the lid after a period of being idle, it actually enables the dual screen function (indicated by the 2 screens in green that flash up when you open). Does it stop it from doing that? I find it rather annoying that I have to push Fn+F7 everytime I open the lid.

Same issue with my X60s. I set the action to "do nothing" on closing the lid, but sometimes when I reopen it, the resolution has changed to 800x600. And everytime when I reopen it, and its not 800x600 but 1024x768 as it should be, the desktop icons have been rearranged as if I had switched to a smaller resolution in the meantime.

I tried disabling the other modes in the presentation director, but it does not help. It seems to be related to the time the lid was closed, if I close it only for a few seconds, everything is okay, 800x600 resolution mostly occurs when the lid has been closed for some time..

And after disabling and reenabling the modes in the presentation director, the display now flickers a few times after reopening.

If anybody figures out how to resolve this, please post it here. Thanks :)

I deinstalled the presentation manager software and Fn+F7 now switches between blank screen and Thinkpad screen.

But its still flickering a few seconds on reopening the lid. I noticed that after reopening, the Windows graphic settings have gone weird. I can set a resolution of up to 1600x1200 and the monitor refresh rate is 60Hz. When I load the Intel graphic administration tool, I can set the refresh rate to 50Hz, afterwards the Windows graphic settings are correct again (displaying the correct possible values of max. 1024x768 resolution and 40Hz and 50Hz refresh rates only).

I guess the incorrect refresh rate causes the flickering and I wonder why there is a change in the system settings.

hi guys,

same problem drove me nuts on my x40, dont knwo if will work but it worth take a chance.

as you;ve seen the presentation director has an option when wake up from sleep state to apply the default scheme.

everything should be ok, only that it sees the default scheme as the one set in the driver not in itself!

so, go to intels menu disply driver (desktop, rightclick, properties, settings, advanced, intel grapfhics, graphic properties) save the scheme you want and save it as default.

it solved my problem! and as long as i connet the x40 very often to tv or projector i really need the presentation director.

hope it helped,

I had the same issue: I had sleep-on-lid-close disabled, and once in a while after re-opening the lid, it would be in VGA mode. Sometimes it would switch back to the correct resolution, sometimes not. After tinkering with the above solutions, it now at least doesn't go into VGA mode. However, it still annoyingly cycles through the display settings (lcd+external then to just lcd).

I think what's going on here is that when you close the lid, the laptop figures maybe you want to use the external port instead. So it switches to the external port. My default external video setting was 640x480 (and it wouldn't let me change it w/o a monitor attached). I haven't had time to verify this guess (don't have an external monitor handy) but if anyone else has the time, try attaching the monitor (in lcd only mode) and close the lid.

I'm still curious if I can disable the annoying setting-cycle when I open the lid. It shows the lcd+external icon, then goes blank for a second, then comes back with the lcd only icon. That going blank part is what bugs me. I may try uninstalling some resident programs or drivers, but I'm not really sure which ones to use.

My microphone, however, seems to be working fine. When I installed OneNote, I was able to go throught the voice recognition stuff fine (with the laptop right in front of me at a normal distance).

I've got the same configuration as most everyone here. I want nothing to occur when the lid closes, but low and behold, it changes resolutions.

While I don't have a solution, I can add this. I recently reformatted my machine putting it back to factory via thinkvantage tools (I have an x60s). Prior to doing this, I did not have the resolution change issue.

Anyone call support by chance? I know I'd sure prefer not to.....

About the screen resolution issue, try this...

1. Go to run type in "regedit"
2. Find \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
3. Delete igfxpers.exe
4. Restart

Please post your reply if this method works!
Thanks.

What is igfxpers.exe and what does it do?

I'd love to know what igfxpers.exe is as well. Eager to fix the problem. More eager to not create new ones by randomly tinkering with the registry.

Resolution stable, but color correction not

#17 Post by gandini » Mon Jun 19, 2006 12:17 pm

I use Adobe Gamma to set my color correction on my x60s, and if I boot it installs and corrects properly, but when I come out of stand by mode, the color goes back to the standar TP blue which is totally unnatural. I uninstalled the presentation manager, but it did not fix this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Thanks. My problem is not one of resolution changes, but one of color balance (monitor calibration) which is essential for viewing and editing photographs and other graphic images. Not that I expect my x60s to be the same as my desktop with La Cie analog and 24" digital monitors...but the colors should be reasonably accurate.
Anyway, I solved the problem. The standard solution is to use monitor calibration software and store the corrected RGB gammas in a .icc file that gets loaded and stays loaded. However, when coming out of standby mode, the x60s resets the monitor to the Intel Graphics program default. Which has too strong a blue cast.
So, I manually adjusted the RGB gamma in the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (desktop>properties>settings>advanced) and saved it as a "scheme" that loads and remains with the monitor. It's possible after about 6 years of digital photo experience to get a pretty good color balance manually.
Problem solved, now to get rid of that annoying beep every time the laptop goes into, and comes out of, standby mode...

cheers,
Dr. Phil
