Anybody in this shipment (shipped 7/23)??

#1 Post by mtbiac » Mon Jul 26, 2004 11:00 am

Ordered my T42p GVU last wednesday, and I was both suprised and excited to learn that it shipped on the 23rd (Friday). Is anyone else in this shipment? UPS/IBM are acting weird - It was supposedly shipped on the 23rd (According to IBMs order status page, via UPS 2 day) but UPS says it was billed/picked up on the 24th (saturday?).

Anyways - its now stuck in Louisville, KY. Only problem is that I live in South Florida - wtf? Any idea on when I can expect this ?? If they shipped 2 day should be here tomorrow at the latest, right?

wow, I didnt realize how much CRAP IBM installs on these things. I've been searching for that thread about formatting and reinstalling XP pro vs leaving it as stock but cant find it. I'm seriously about to format, because there is sooo much junk on here. any reason why I should not? oh and I dont have the recovery discs yet (gonna call soon and get em free)

thanks

edit: quick rundown of laptop

its AMAZING!! extremely solid build quality
no dead pixels
keyboard feels very solid
9cell fits very nicely (so far)
just booted it up about 10min ago so I'll comment on other stuff later

I think I'm in this shipment, although mine shoes up as a shipment of 9. 2 of the 9 have already been long delivered, while 7 have been sitting in KY for 2.5 days now. How long does customs take?

Uh oh, for the status on the 7 non-delivered ones, it says "Exception." What's going on?

If yours is anything like mine, the FDA is giving it the third-degree. It's currently in "exception" limbo in Kentucky. I had hoped it would be delivered today.

Apparently there's not much we can do at this point but wait. If you want, though, you can call UPS; sometimes they can give you more detailed information than the online tracking. If you end up doing that, let us know what they tell you.

i have 20 thinkpads on an FDA hold in louisville..
usually this does not last longer than a day or even not that long..

also, FWIW, the tracking number can change when a large shipment splits up..

well it's interesting. In my ship group (of 9), two of the laptops were actually delivered on Monday, so they cleared sunday night or so. Mine has taken over three days now, and it's still there.

If I had found this site before I ordered my laptop I would have bought from you. If my new unit isn't in any better shape than the last one, I will be buying from you. 8)

Frankly, I am really disappointed in IBM

#19 Post by bigbillyt » Wed Jul 28, 2004 6:15 pm

This is my first experience trying to own a Thinkpad and the stupid thing has been stuck in Louisville for a week now with no news of a new expected delivery date. IBM is completely useless and says there is nothing they can do. I paid for express shipping which I have requested be refunded and they claim they will do that, but will not send me confirmation of that transaction.

IBM even has an FAQ regarding the situation where your laptop may be on a customs hold. It basically absolves them of any responsibility. So, I would assume this happens fairly regularly to them, or should I say, to their customers. Nice!

Oh, and when I asked if I could just cancel the order they told me that there was no way for them to do that as it had already shipped and was therefore technically mine. Then I asked another one of their CSRs and they said that they could get an RMA approved in advance but they would charge me a restocking fee. EXTRA NICE!

I am beginning to regret having made the choice of a Thinkpad in the first place. Perhaps they should change the name to Don't Thinkpad or Think Really Hard Firstpad.

I guess it is both good, and bad, to know that even those of you who are getting larger numbers of units are subject to the same abuse.

Also, I hate UPS, there web site stinks. They show that there is over 500 pieces in this shipment but they can only show me 55 of the units and there disposition. Then they tell me I can register and use some sort of visibility services? Like what, the "Quantum View" inbound crap? I guess if I knew the shippers shipping number and had the time and patience to figure out how to use the stupid thing!

Sorry for the rant, but spending two thousand dollars to spend hours of my life looking to try to figure out when or if I will get my laptop is pretty frustrating.

Bigbillyt,

In IBM's defense I'll just say that as big as they are, they can't make the US Govt. and it's minions move any faster than anyone else.

As to cancelling the sale, IBM has a 30 day no questions asked return policy with no restocking fee. Call them again and ask to speak to a supervisor.

Call your credit card company and cancel the sale for failure to deliver.

Call Bill and order your Thinkpad from him. It will arrive when promised.

FWIW, i have about 30 thinkpads in that huge shipment..
at least 1000 thinkpads held up for a day..

but all of mine are "in transit" and i expect them ALL to arrive tomorrow, thurasday..
well, ok, in a few hours..
and that means it is my bed time.. way past..!

don't blame ibm for UPS and government and paperwork SNAFU's..

:?

relax and think about that nice parcel that will arrive tomorrow.. :D

well, mine are "in transit" as well, but that means they're moving around a Kentucky warehouse. And as it's Thursday already, I'm not holding my breath for them to be delivered today.

ALL 30 thinkpads arrived at 9:58am, here in florida..!
these are from about half a dozen orders..

so, given that UPS CAN act fast when they want to, most all of you should have your thinkpads today if you are there to sign for them..! :D

well, I'm here alllll day. My guess is they won't be here, at least according to the UPS woman. I gave them a call today, first to the number in KY I have, second to a different number I got. They're still in FDA hold.

You know, I guess Customs is just trying to stop the Heroin ring that IBM has set up.

FWIW, when these large shipments are parceled out to the various address's they pick up a different tracking number..

the UPS operator can tell you where yours is..

FWIW-2, don't get pissy with ibm..
its really not their fault..

maybe it is UPS's fault since their computer is not printing the address's on the small labels that go on the box..
thatrs how someone else's new thinkpad wound up here..

Hmm? No, I haven't gotten pissy with ibm. . . haven't called them in fact. Also haven't gotten pissy with ups. . . just called them. The only person I could be pissy with is Customs/FDA, and I don't have their number ;).
