R31 won't boot from hard drive--HELP

#1 Post by kretara » Tue Mar 28, 2006 10:54 am

I have a R31 that will not boot from its hard drive.
It will boot from the CD-ROM drive with no problems or errors.

I can go through the install (from CD) process for both XP and Linux, but as soon as I try to boot from the HD I get "Operating System Not Found".
I have tried a different HD (known good) and get the same message upon boot.

From what I can tell, there are no passwords set on this machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this laptop to boot from its HD?

Maybe the master boot record has become corrupted. Since you seem to be doing full re-installs, I would go ahead and wipe the whole drive, or if you have any disk sector editing tools available, just the first 512 sectors then.

Run FDISK /MBR from the XP recovery console.
