on my thinkpad a id say about 70% of the time when i input from the keybaord the letters come out really slow, like typing in mud. theres a delay of about 1/2 second before the letters come on the document or internet address bar... this is kind of like using a computer right after startup. but it does it all the time. after i type for about 30 seconds then its normal speed again.
what should i disable/change? the computer itself should be plenty fast enough to register at normal speed. its nearly new.
Delay in typing, registering keyboard inputs
If you have anything running in the background (antivirus scanner, movie downloads, 3-D rendering, spyware, etc) try disabling them one by one and see if performance improves.
Defragmenting and scanner for viruses might help. Ie there any software that has been installed recently? Etc. I would start there.

Try typing CTRL + SHIFT + ESC when this happens. You can see if another process is using up CPU cycles. I find that CISVC (the Content Indexing service) often picks the least convenient time to start updating the catalogs. Not bad, since it speeds up searches on your hard drive, but a pain when you're trying to do something quickly.
