A31p - Is this the proper 1GB RAM memory upgrade?

#1 Post by SIRIUS » Tue Mar 28, 2006 2:07 pm

Can anyone confirm that this would be the correct 1GB memory upgrade for an A31p-N6U?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWA:IT
or...

Also, can anyone comment on the Brand/quality of these sticks?

There is 30 of these for sale on eBay.

Thank you.

As far as know, the A31p can hold only 2x512MB. A 1GB stick would not work, or am I wrong?

Never heard of that brand...

IBM TP T41p (1.7G/1GB/100GB-7k100/DVD-CDRW/SXGA+/BT)
IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)

WTB: n/a

Orevin-
According to other posts, the A31p can accept a BIOS upgrade. This upgrade then allows for up to 2GB of RAM.
I believe that the BIOS upgrade can be downloaded/applied at the IBM webite.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks, I'm not familiar with this model, just checked the specs. at IBM.

Edit:
found the post: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=2506

In this case, these memory chips should work.

IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)

FWIW, I just got an A31p, it's got a pretty old BIOS (can't remember which version, but several years old), and I put a 1G stick (and a 256M that was already in here) and it works fine w/ 1280M.

No, they won't work!

These are desktop sticks, says so right at the top of the page, you need SODIMM laptop sticks.

The A31p with the latest BIOS upgrade will accept any PC2100 SODIMM that's usable in the T40 series. I've got 2GB in my 2.6GHz A31p and it's a stormer.

James

If you're referring to the sticks in the OP's post, they won't work as they're desktop sticks.

Does it have to be low density? I have a sony vaio that maxed out at 256 megs of Pc100 but if you put low density memory in it you can install 512?
I just got a G40 3 gig processor at a good price and wonderif it will take 2 gig. the specs say 1o24. My desktop is only a 2.8 with 1536 ram, so I am hoping to beef up the ram and it should be as fast or faster.
