I hava a T40 (2373-92u) with the internal 802.11 AB mPCI and wanted to upgrade to the 802.11 ABG II (73P4301) mPCI. According to the website this card was supposed to work in my unit. I purchased last year and ran into this same problem and shelved it until I could rebuild my OS (winXP) since I assumed I had a Registry fragmentation problem. I had a Bunch o crap on the3 machine.
The Problem:
the newly installed mPCI card has the usual "!" in the device manager and states it is not working due the the fact it cannot allocate enough free resources (code 12).
This systems was just re-installed fresh with the IBM recovery CD's e.g. a fresh OPsys... little in the way of SW installed. I've gone through the sw updating and upgraded from the SP1 the CD's installed to SP2. I just updated the BIOS to latest greatest from IBM/Lenova.
How Did I approach the Install:
I uninstalled the old 802.11 AB device from the Device Manager. - Powered down the unit.
Removed the card. -- Rebooted and checked the device manager (listing hidden device drivers etc.)
Powered Down and Installed the 802.11 ABG II mPCI card.
Rebooted and installed the drivers... after rebooted... and checked the Device Manager.... "!" Error.
I've tried to update the drivers from the website; I disabled the Modem to possibly free resources; removed the 512MB Ram; PULLED Copious amounts of Hair and sacrificed them to the ThinkVantage Gods... etc. I even updated the BIOS to most recent.... No Dice
I have scoured this forum with no success. I haven' tried the ATHEROS drivers mentioned in one post but am willing to try at this point.
Any Advice at this point would be Very much appreciated.
TIA.
