Sanyo Battery Made In Japan

#1 Post by Hangfire » Mon Jul 26, 2004 2:51 pm

I got my 2373JXU from Bill about a week ago without a hitch. The KB is the stiff Thai one, the 15" screen has no dead or stuck pixels, and the battery is pretty snug.

Which is what prompts this post, the number on the battery indicates that it is the Chinese made Sanyo that everyone has the problem with. (08K8193) This battery has "Made in Japan" on it and fits like a glove.

What gives?

Could I have the numbers wrong?

Sony = 92P1011
Sanyo= 08K8193

I also just received a Sanyo (08K8193) that says "Made in Japan" with my 2373-3VU, but because it is 14" it does not fit like a glove :cry:

I was under the impression that it is mainly the 14" that had the keyboard flex and loose Sanyo (as scot also mentions).
I only have a 15" T42.
The 15" china made keyboard was more an issue of quality, I think.
For me, the keys didn't feel as good, and the left click/center scroll had some squeekiness. I wasnt sure if I had any flex issues with the China keyboard. The Thai was a very noticeable improvement.
And the Sanyo battery fits ok in my 15" too. I can cause it to move, but only just barely. I'm a little anal, but not enough to bother replacing the battery.

I have both 14" and 15" T42s, and Sanyo Japan, Sanyo China, and Sony China 6-cell batteries. The Sanyos seem to fit the same regardless of where they were made - decently in the 15" and loose in the 14". The Sony is a little bit more snug in both, but it's far from an earth-shattering difference.

Reveived my CWU in early June '04 - battery made in Outer Mongolia - I've been waiting SO long to see if it's going to shake rattle and roll that I really haven't had time to actually USE my laptop...

While it's good to take everything in perspective and remember that the computer is actually for computing, that's kind of like saying it's inappropriate to be annoyed if you buy a Mercedes and find that the doors creak when you open and close them. People pay thousands of dollars and a good premium for IBM quality, there's nothing wrong with expecting a level of finish that at least matches that of any HP, Dell or eMachine.

Kenn, believe me, I agree in terms of quality - it's just that the constant whining sometimes gets too much...
