Valid XP pro CD key for All and only IBM machines

#1 Post by behar1 » Thu Mar 30, 2006 6:16 pm

For Clean installers who don't appreciate factory Junk and recovery partitions waste of space

For anyone who is having problems with activation and WinXp Cd Keys
You can always use the IBM VLK which will require no activation and will be legit for you to use it because you own the machine and you paid for one copy of OS

How to obtain the VLK, easy stuff

Your TP came fresh out factory first time you turn it on immediately hit F1 for at least a couple of times and boot to bios set the boot order
To boot first from CD, put in a bootable ghost CD and restart the machine
Create the image file of the C drive which will be your recovery Image so that you can get rid of the recovery partition (in the Future) and claim the space, if you have a DVD burner it is one DVD if not you need seven cds

The VLK will be located in the image file on two locations in the I386 folder under the name Unattend.txt or in the SysPrep Folder under the name SysPrep.ini which after the first boot will change to a generic Key number that all I386 folders have and it's no use to anyone

Did I obtain the VLK with this method, I certainly did and it works even on my old timer A20P which was designed for Windows 2000 not even XP
All that it asks is that installation is done on an IBM and it does not care if it is a Desktop or a Laptop it even works on my NetVista A60

Does it check out as legit with Mr. Gates most certainly does it gets all the windows updates and downloads that require Windows Genuine Validation with a thank you from Mr. Gates himself

Can I post the VLK here, certainly not without the permission of the board admins, I am the new guy on the block and I am not sure if they will allow it

Note from Moderator: Don't do it.

Use the magic jelly bean key finder, or a similar free key recovery utility.

This is not the full story, you need to do more that just get the VLK. Read this thread.

Easy stuff buddy just make the image file of any Windows XP Pro CD
with a program like UltraIso, find the image file where ever it is that you have saved it open it, delete the I386 folder in it and replace it with the one on your C drive save it to a different location and name and burn it.

And yes unless you are retired and (or) on vacation save the time for integrating the drivers to the CD and use the IBM software installer

Maybe in hindsight I should not say this, but I actually have my key memorized. I'm not a nerd!

Everyone has a photographic memory, but most people are out of film or bits!

I have a memory for numbers that borders on the savant! Don't know why, but I've always been able to remember numbers, to the point I can recall every phone number I've ever had.

Besides my own, I know my wife's, son's and daughters' driver's license numbers! And everyone's SS numbers, as well as those of their respective spouses.

Everyone's phone numbers, cell, office and home!

Same for addresses.

Never been able to find a rewarding (remunerative!) application for this quirk.

Same here; this actually extends to numbers that I happen to look at for certain periods of time; random cell phone numbers, etc.

It actually helped me out on an exam once since I had studied the old exams and, suprise, a good portion of the questions happen to have been near identical to the ones I had studied. Got through with the test 45 minutes earlier because of that one. ;)

And yes, I caught that reference to Rainman :P :)

To paraphrase Disraeli, while I would certainly embrace his ex-wife, I would not embrace his cult.

Well, I just used the Product Recovery Discs to restore my T42. Thankfully they worked! 8)

Before I started, I looked at the Product Key in Unattend.txt and wrote it down. I also used Magic Jelly Bean, and it showed a different Product Key which I also wrote down. The bottom of the ThinkPad has a sticker which has yet another Product Key.

After using the Product Recovery Discs, and before Windows booted, I booted off of a Windows XP CD that I made using the info in the Sticky at the top of this forum. I tried to navigate to the I386 folder, but Access was Denied. Then I put in a different CD to boot from, but instead Windows began booting up. After getting the Windows desktop, but before Windows finished installing, I went to the I386 folder and looked at Unattend.txt. The Product Key in it was the same as Magic Jelly Bean reported above. After Windows finished installing and rebooted itself, I looked again at Unattend.txt, and the Product Key changed to what I saw in Unattend.txt before I used the Product Recovery Discs.

I also took the opportunity to create a new set of Product Recovery Discs; this time using the (1) CD and (1) DVD method.

Looks like I'll be busy for the next couple of days reinstalling all my apps.

Acronis True Image, 2.5" hard disks and cases are pretty cheap. A clone of your hard drive can save you a lot of time and trouble.
