I'm new to Windows XP, from Windows 2000 (was resisting XP for a long time). It seems like XP has a different default behavior in the explorer window.
When I open it (with the folders bar on the left showing the hierarchical representation of all volumes and folders) it always automatically expands (in the folders bar) any volume or folder I click on.
That is, say, I single click drive c: (not the + box next to it, but the name of the drive itself). When I do that, I not only get a display of the contents of c: in the right-hand window. But the hierarchical representation of c:'s contents expands in the left-hand folders bar window too.
In 2K this was not the case. The foldera/volumes on the left only expanded if I clicked the + box (or if I opened a folder in that volume by double clicking in the right-hand window). In XP the folder/volume always expands, regardless of what manner in which I click on it. I hover the cursor over a folder of volume, it is then underlined as in the single-click mode, and when i select it, it always expands (rather than just showing the contents on the right).
Turning on and off the single-click behavior in the folder options window does not effect this.
Is there anyway to defeat this behavior and have it operate like 2K? I already have all my settings on classic mode. I don't want those folders/volumes to be expanding (on the left) every time I select and particular folder or volume.
Thanks.
