Problem with wireless card
Problem with wireless card
I have a problem with my wireless card. After updating wireless driver trought System Update to the 9.0.4.8 version, Access Connections show me the error message when I click fn+F5 and I cant use the wireless conection. After that I install ThinkVantage Access Connections version 4.11a. There is not error message anymore but I can't control wireless radio. Option "rollback driver" for wireless was not change anything. Then I instal again wireless driver 9.0.4.8 but the problem is still there. I try to uninstall all network driver(LAN and Wireless),Access Conections and to install them again but it isn't solve my problem. So, the problem is that I can't control wireless trought my access conection. I have ThinkPad R51 1829-R6G. Can you help me?
This is the ERROR message from LOG:

(1) Search this forum for the dozens of previous threads on this annoying problem.
(2) Find a solution that works for you (there are many different solutions and their effects seems to be mostly random)
(3) Once it works - don't touch anything. Don't ever update the wireless driver and don't ever update Access Connections. Unless you begin having problems, like disconnects, slowdowns, weak signals when they should be strong, etc.
I'm still running driver version 8.something, that came preinstalled with my Thinkpad, just because of that.

I read all post in this forum (posts that containts "wireless problem or access problem") but I can't find the solution for me, I tried the older driver versions but I still have the same problem. I try with some script for erasing old driver files wich I found here in the forum but nothing hapens. In the adapter details "wireless connection status" MAC adress for my wireless card is incorect. I have the other MAC adress that is corect, I'm sure in that because I now use the wireless connection in my office.... I am trying to find the solutions without whole reinstall of my softver..
I have the same problem and, like Aavram, have tried, but been unsuccessful, in using several of the solutions that have worked for others (e.g. uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers and Access Connections, with and without the intel cleanup script, with and without a registry cleanup utility, verifying the PATH statement points to the right library, etc.). I am currently using the 9.0.4.8 Intel driver (2915ABG) and Access Connections 4.12; however the problem has been consistent through prior levels of both.
Let me pose a partial hypothesis and perhaps some of the more knowledgeable members of the board can comment on whether or not it makes sense and/or suggest where to look for further investigation.
If I look at the Access Connections event log, shortly before each "Muroc API GetCurrentProfile() missing!" or "Muroc API GetRadioState() missing" error I see the following the sequence:
Ok AcSvc( SYSTEM(Prvlg).2300.4940) 13:03:27:015 GetAdapterObjectFromPnpID: Acquired lock for pnpid=PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4224&SUBSYS_10108086
Ok AcSvc( SYSTEM(Prvlg).2300.4940) 13:03:27:031 GetAdapterObjectFromPnpID: Found adapter object in our cache
Ok AcSvc( SYSTEM(Prvlg).2300.4940) 13:03:27:031 GetAdapterObjectFromPnpID: Releasing lock. Returning with 24461184 as adapter object for pnpid=PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4224&SUBSYS_10108086
My hypothesis is that the problem might be caused by bad data in the referenced cache. Does this make sense? If so, can anyone identify where this cache might be, whether it makes sense to try to "clear" it, and how one might go about doing so?
Thanks, in advance, for any insight you might be able to provide.

Is windows trying to control the wireless access?
Start -> connections -> wireless network -> view wireless networks
does this say: windows cannot configure this wireless connection?
BTW - can you tell me your bios and embedded controller version, version of windows (it's in control panel -> system) and wireless card?

No, windows does not have control (it does say "Windows cannot configure....").a31pguy wrote:Is windows trying to control the wireless access?

Bios Version: 1.25 (1YET60WW)
Bios Date: 2006-01-23
Embedded Controller Version: 1.05
Windows Version: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 (with all the latest Microsoft auto updates)
Wireless card: 2915ABG
A few other notes:
- The wireless MAC address shown on AC's Wireless Connection Status display is NOT the MAC address of the wireless card. That would be consistent with the hypothesis that it's picking up invalid adapter data somewhere.
- I know that the wireless card works, since I CAN configure it and connect to a wireless network by taking AC out of the picture (i.e. if I use WZC, rather than AC, to manage the configuration).
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well you can do this two ways - one is to delve into why access connections isn't working or you can wipe out your devices and reinstall.
The first route is to look at the Access Connections process binary, and registry settings looking for the hook into the hardware. I'd use the sysinternals process explorer to do that. If you feel comfortable with regedit - that might be an educational route to go.
Process explorer is located at http://www.sysinternals.com
The second route assumes that we can wipe out the bad hardware device driver located in one of your profiles/registry entries. To go this route I would do this:
First - start to safe mode and check the network devices in device manager. Tell me what and how many you find.
Second tell me how many hardware profiles you have. Control Panel -> system -> hardware -> hardware profiles. Do you use a docking station?

Renaming c:\windows\libeay32.dll solved the problem for me
After trying many of the solutions suggested in various threads on this topic, I finally found one that worked for me, which was to rename an apparently obsolete copy of libeay32.dll that was sitting in c:\windows, per Riddel's post in http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... beay32+dll
Thanks, also, to the many other board contributors who have been attempting to diagnose and collaborate on solving this and related wireless problems!

It's working
I solved my problem too thanks to Ektx.....
fixed mine too
I had a similar problem with Access Connections not being able to power the wireless card on/off. It was not able to report status of the signal and showed an incorrect MAC address for the card. Deleting this stray DLL seems to have fixed the problem.
I never would have found this on my own, so thanks to everyone who contributed.
