repair T43p latch without disassembly?

#1 Post by river » Sat Apr 01, 2006 9:12 pm

hi folks,

after taking my new T43p on a long plane journey, the spring on the latch lid has somehow become un-springy--it just sticks wherever i leave it, instead of opening and closing properly. oh no :(. since the laptop is just sitting on my desk right now, this isn't a huge problem, but obviously i'd like to fix it.

i see a few people have asked about this before, and the usual answer is that it should be simple enough to do with the help of the maintenance manual. well, i looked at the manual, but getting to the latch, as far as i can tell, requires disassembling basically the entire LCD unit, which i'm kind of worried about--i would feel a bit stupid if i ended up with a working latch but a broken display! (and although i used to do stuff like this a lot, i'm a bit rusty now, and i don't even know if i have the right screwdrivers handy.)

so, my question is: has anyone had this problem, and managed to sort it out without taking the whole thing apart? (i'm wondering if maybe a bit of dirt's just stuck in the latch or something...)

youd have to disassemble and hope that it just became loose which happened to me.

The easier solution is to get it waranteed since I'd assume the spring is defective?

Getting to the spring on a 14.1" T42 is not difficult - 9 screws plus the plastic LCD border.
