600e device bay irq conflict

System:
Thinkpad 600e (2645-8bu) -it was a gift
Windows 2000 professional
~390 MHz (Pentium II, MMX)
256+32 MB ram
Free hard drive space: 8.5 GB
Bios version: 99-11-20 - INET29WW
Slave controler version: 99-07-16 - IHHT08WW

Problem:
Toshiba xm-1902b (05k9124) cd-rom drive's drivers do not load due to error code 31 (device depends on another device that is not functioning correctly)
Drivers were already updated (win2000/windows update). Since the drive worked perfectly when i got it, updating the bios probably would not help.

Cause:
I disabled the internal modem and the docking station in ThinkPad Configuration (cause i thought i didnt need them) - cd drive has not worked since
Tried re-enabling the docking station but error message reported resource conflict with device bay
When the cd drive used to work, both the device bay and docking station were enabled (device bay is currently enabled, docking station is disabled)

Resources:
Device bay uses irq15
Docking station uses irq15 for ide device (this should be ok), and irq11 for pci steering (irq11 is currently used by PCI Device Setup)
System currently uses irq 0,1,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,and15 (i do not know how to change the irq for devices)

Please advise what devices/resources i need to enable/disable to get the cd-rom to work

I don't understand your configuration. You have a docking station? A SelectaDock II or SelectaDock III? What else do you have installed in your docking station? When you say it was working when you got it, do you mean that it was working when installed in your docking station, or do you mean it was working when undocked?

Have you checked out Installing Windows 2000 onto a blank hard drive - ThinkPad 600E? This includes a small section close to the bottom about "Enabling an IDE device in the SelectaDock-III". This process involves re-adjusting which IRQs are assigned for what. It seems possible to me that somehow you have set up your docking station to enable the use of an IDE device in the desktop device bay in your docking station, and have somehow thereby disabled the IDE device in your ThinkPad UltraSlim Bay. Just a guess, though, as it is hard for me to understand what devices you have at the moment.

Another troubleshooting technique to use with docking stations is to pull your ThinkPad out of the dock, pull all devices out of the dock and ThinkPad (PCMCIA cards, UltraBay II devices in the dock, UltraSlim Bay devices in the ThinkPad, PCI devices in the dock, etc.) except for the one you want to make sure is working, delete the "docked" hardware profile, and start fresh by booting up from off while in the dock. This will mean you have to go through and reconfigure everything from scratch, and so should be the next-to-last choice, but I find it helps to clear up some otherwise difficult to resolve IRQ conflict issues in certain cases. As I say though, I would not try this immediately, only try it if you can't get anything else to work (or if you never had a functional "docked" hardware profile to begin with).

sorry i wasnt clear before
i've never used a docking station on my thinkpad -the cd drive is in the device bay
i mentioned it because i remember the docking station was enabled in the thinkpad configuration program when the cd drive used to work

when i got the laptop (and when the drive worked), all the devices in the thinkpad configuration program were enabled (all the lights were green)
the only thing i did between when the drive worked and when it stopped working was i disabled the internal modem and the docking station since i didnt need to use them
(i dont see how this could cause the cd-rom to stop working but its the only thing i did)

so basically when i found that the cd drive didnt work i tried reversing all the changes i did to the computer (and i cant remember doing anything other than turning the 2 off)
the modem turns on and off but the device bay and docking station conflict with each other even though they shouldnt (they're supposed to share irq15)
right now the device bay is enabled and docking station is disabled
i'm just wondering if the docking station turned on/off could conflict with the device bay working
i really dont need the docking station to work....just want the cd drive back

right now i have plugged into my laptop a pcmcia network card, a power cable, and a cdrom drive in the device bay which windows detects but won't load the drivers for (the drive works though...i can boot from it so if all else fails i'll have to clean install windows)

i hope this clears up the confusion and please do tell if u can think of any other reason why windows suddenly stopped loading the drivers

ok well i guess this topic was something new and noone else ran into this problem before
i don't know what really caused my cd rom to stop working and i couldnt figure it out but since the problem was with windows not loading the drivers i booted up with a cd and repaired windows
cd drive is working fine now...still dont know what happened
anyways thanks to pkiff for his suggestions
