IS Bill the real Deal? for buying the T series

#1 Post by yellow » Tue Jul 27, 2004 5:13 am

Hi

Just come accross thinkpads.com and thinking of buying , however unsure!! Not enough info on website to verify who bill and his company are.

This is in no way planned to offend bill

, but merely a way to get more information. It would really help if somewhere on thinkpads.com there was a page where it explained who bill is, how he gets prefrential prices off IBM. I assume Bill owns a company which has an agreement with IBM to sell thinkpads. It seems unrealitic that IBM would set up an agrremnt with a company.

Although im sure all my questions can be answered, you ll understand why new users wonder whether to buy when they really want to do so because of the lack of information. available freely on the website. for all to see.

Bill im sure you are legit all the way, and i think you would get so many more orders if you could clarify things on your website and explain how you run this operation.

Thanks

Yellow

Bill is an IBM authorised retailer, and you can trust him. Very much reliable, and most of the people in forum have got thinkpads from him.

yellow,

I just received my second T-42 from Bill, I was not happy with my first one due to one stuck pixel.

Bill made sure I was 100% satisfied with my purchase. I, as well as many other people on this forum can vouch for him.

Feel free to pm me if you like.

From the top of his website:

"PC-VAR Location ID upon request" and then the link to the legal stuff at

Here is an explanation of a Value-Added Reseller from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAR

Bill is an authorized VAR for IBM products.

The unique numerical identifier IBM assigns to each Value Added Retailer.

It is, in essence, IBM's stamp of approval that the subject retailer is fully licensed to sell their products, and any products purchased through tthe licensed retailer are treated the same as IBM direct purchases for purposes of product support and warranty.

For example, if you purchase a Thinkpad from Bill in July that was manufactured in February, the warranty begins on the date of purchase.

If you purchase the same unit from a non-licensed seller, the warranty will begin on the date the unit was manufactured.

James

Yes, Bill is the "real deal"

I've ordered three thinkpads and two port replicators from him over the last year, and everything has arrived no problem. I recommend him without reservation for your Thinkpad purchases...

Regards,

Mike

Just to add my 2 cents - when you call XYZ Corp to ask a question, do they remember who you are? Do you have a casual chat about your latest car/girlfriend? Does the person at the other end of the phone actually sound as if they know what they're talking about? When you call from the other side of the world (well almost) and cock up the time zones do they tell you they're not open yet or do they chat...?

It's called service, and it's what Bill offers - personally I appreciate it.

i just finished figuring out a deal from bill for my new thinkpad, and he's certainly been more helpful and informative (and gave me an AWESOME deal) than any big corporation customer "service" has ever been.

he was even able to make a custom modification to the computer that IBM couldn't even do!!!

his communication has been second to none so far, all i need now is to send him my money and get my new computer!

basically i wanted a 14' SXGA T42 w/ the 64 mb radeon, and the 60 gb 7200 rpm drive.

i called up IBM and they had prebuilt models w/ the 14' sxga and the 64 mb radeon, but with the slower 40 gb drive. when i asked upgrade, they told me the hard drives on the prebuilts weren't changeable. all i could do was buy the 60 gb seperate and swap it myself. but then i'd be left over w/ a 40 gb hd.

so next i went to the built it yourself, and to my surprise, the only video card available with the 14 sxga is the 32 mb radeon. if you select the 64 mb, the only screen option is the 15'.

so i talked to bill and he was able to put together a prebuilt model, and upgrade the h.d. for me (without having to buy a completely seperate one for like $400 like ibm said i'd have to do).

and not to mention a pretty sweet deal :)

Bill is as real at it gets.

I have purchased 4 ThinkPads from him and you can find no one better to deal with. The information IS on Bill's site if you look for it.

You would be better off dealing with Bill that some of these other jerks who are selling ThinkPads. It is up to you but the people in this forum know and what do you want to convince you?
