CISVC-running too often

#1 Post by kuma » Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:08 pm

CISVC seems to be running in the backround and using all the CPU power. I use task manger to close it but is there something I can do about it?

That is the Microsoft Indexing Service used to index files on your hard drive for faster access. You can go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Indexing Service. Set service to Manual or Disabled, and also stop Service. I have mine set to Manual and Stopped, and do not see CISVC running on my T42.

There are other ways of managing the Indexing Service. To see the options, open Explorer, hit F3, click Change Preferences, click Without Indexing Service. Read the "more about..." item, and then click advanced. You can set it so it's only indexing your files, not your entire hard drive. Nice for when you WANT to find files, and don't want a desktop search to take 60 seconds or more. ;)
