TV: Access Connections -- Radio Automatically turns off

#1 Post by epic » Tue Apr 04, 2006 7:16 am

Hello all,

I just recently updated AC to 4.11a (no apparent reason). The issue I encountered is when the Cisco (350MiniPCI) wireless adapter no longer has acquired a signal, AC will automatically turn off the Wireless Radio the moment it lost it's association. However, assuming, this feature was designed with the thought of Power Management, but was not released accurately.

In previous versions (3.81, 2.20, etc...) you have the option to "Enable Automatic Radio Control," which, when enabled, will automatically turn off the radio when no association is found. If the "Enable Automatic Radio Control" feature is disabled, the radio is forced to stay On, looking for an association to acquire. This is overwhelmingly helpful, when in the airport or in an area that's nearly improbable to receive a signal.

The new verision of TV:AC (4.11a) there is no such option, to control your radio, besides turning the Radio On/Off. If no association is found it will turn off, especially in areas where the signal is weak (ie. Airports, Corner offices). TV:AC will just turn off. It's pain stakenly annoying and hope the next release will be designed with more thought! :x

Resolution: Rollback to a Previous version.
TV:AC version's that work as intended:
3.81
2.20

Another annoyance:
TV:Software Installer. When Upgrading/Installing new packages I do not understand why the developers did not add an option to Uninstall Package under the Installed Packages menu. You have the option to select a previous versions of the Packages installed. However, before you can revert back, you need to uninstall, then rescan for packages then install. It would be less work to uninstall a package, reboot if needed, then install the package without having to rescan 2 to 5 times. This route is very time consuming.
