Help me pick a t60?

#1 Post by renhui » Wed Apr 05, 2006 3:35 am

Almost settled on 2007-4CU, it seems upgrading the bluetooth might be a huge pain, I would rather deal with the HD upgrade.

Hi guys, I am thinking of picking up a new t60. Based on my requirements(hires 14 screen, figureprint and bluetooth), budget and models available here in Canada, I am looking at 2007-4EU, 4AU and 4CU. They all have similar spec: 1.83 Core Duo, 512MB, 60GB, 14inch 1400X1050, 64MB ATI, Combo and intel wireless.
Differences are as I can tell:
4EU: 7200rpm, figureprint, combo(150ms) 2453CAD
4AU: 5400rpm, figureprint, combo V (120ms). 2522CAD
4CU: 5400rpm, figureprint, combo V(120ms), Bluetooth 2570CAD

Combo V and regular combo, what is the difference?
I prefer 4EU for the cheap price, 7200rpm HD and figureprint, however lack of bluetooth is a pity, can I upgrade it later easily? If so, how much?

Which brand harddrive does lenovo use for t60? Maybe the 7200rpm in 4EU is inferior to the 5400rpm in other models?

Also, can I pick up a cheap aftermarket dvd-burner to put into the t60 by myself? Lenovo charges 280CAD for the thing. Or maybe I can ask the sales representative to change the combo to dvdrw at the time of order?

Last question, how long do I need to wait here in Canada before I can get the t60?

I have the 7200rpm drive and am quite happy I opted for this over the 5400rpm. I think the only 7200rpm drives shipping currently with T60 systems is the Hitachi 7K100. Search on that and you'll see it gets excellent reviews.

Not sure what the difference between Combo and Combo V is - I'm sure someone else does. Or you can look it up in the tabook.

bluetooth FRU No: 39T0497 (not sure if that 0 is a Zero or 'O')
LCD Cable assembly w/ Bluetooth for 15" screen is: 91P6985
you'll have to look up the 14" screen cable yourself. i would download the hardware manual. i don't know why they would need a special lcd cable just b/c you have bluetooth, but they have different partnumbers so i wrote them down. i really regret not getting internal bluetooth in my T60, i had it in my TR2A (Sony). if you want it to look factory, you may have to buy that cover that's at the bottom of the lcd screen too. i think you can upgrade to bluetooth later. i couldn't get a price on the bluetooth module online though, i couldn't find it, but i'll call it in.

Really Good T60 Deal

#4 Post by dcm » Thu Apr 06, 2006 4:12 pm

I just order a T60 200703U priced at $1845. The specs are:

T2500 2.0GHz
512MB
14.1 SXGA
128MB X1400 Ati Radeon M54
100GB 7200RPM
DVD Recordable Plug-in
Intel a/b/g
Bluetooth
Finger reader
6-Cell Battery
3-year Easy Serv

At this price, this beats the 2007C4U, 2007C5U, etc.

N.B: The catch is that this is an EDU model!

I suppose you are from US, right, here in Canada thinkpads are freaking expensive, plus we need to pay 15% tax in Ontario.
So how can you get the education model? I am thinking of asking my friends in US to order one for me, he is a graduate@Dartmouth BTW. It is likely that counting in the cost of the thinkpad, customb

It seems much more complicated than what I thought to simply pop in a bluetooth daughter card. I looked up ebay and found a seller from China who has the bluetooth daughter card for 80US. baby, that's expensive.

I really want the 7200rpm harddrive for the superb performance, but how much performance difference are we looking at here between 5400 and 7200 ? It confused me when I checked lenovo website to find out the 5400rpm 60gb model is more expensive than the 7200rpm 60g model, doesn't make sense to me.
