T42 - Cannot get wireless working

#1 Post by cjlotz » Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:46 am

Hi

See a summary of my system when I run detect from the Lenovo site:

Product: ThinkPad T42 2373-V7Z [change]
Operating system: Windows XP [change]

Original description: Based on 2373-CTO: P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD, 14.1 1024x768 TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Wireless upgradeable(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Home

My question is surrounding Wi-Fi support. My employer claims that the model supports Wi-Fi and sure enough it is enabled in BIOS, but I cannot seem to get it working.

When I install the drivers (Cisco Aironet) I keep getting a message saying:
"The installation will complete and applications will be installed when a wireless LAN client adapter is inserted. If an adapter is already inserted, remove and reinsert the adapter or reboot the machine"

Does the wireless upgradeable imply that there is actually no Wi-fi adapter installed? If so, why does it show up as enabled in the BIOS?

Thanks
Carel
