Thanks.

I'm not worried, just drained. Tech purchases used to be a geek's happy day. Now it's just part of the rest of the dull grind.

Update update update: After a few (3--4) weeks of politely asking, including another stop-by at my bank in person yesterday, the amount finally showed up this morning!

Oh joy! Oh joy of joys!

Is it customary/polite to call up and thank the corresponding reps at Lenovo or am I supposed to be annoyed that it took so long in the first place?

And in other (good?) news, with Intel harping over and over that Yonah users shouldn't expect over 20% of an increase in performance with Merom, at least in initial comparisons, my decision to not wait for it is so much easier!

At the moment, no. And it doesn't look like I will get one any time soon. Given the sense of peace I'm feeling now, I don't think I'm going to push for it either.

IMO, neither. Sometimes the wheels of process and procedure just grind slowly.

Congratulations! I wouldn't call and thank them, personally. I think it's fair being annoyed. After all, they were unable for all this time to explain to you what happened and gave you a lot of bureaucratic run around. I'd feel lucky and grateful to the gods, more than thankful to Lenovo.

Excellent, it's settled then; I plan to revel in my new-found inner peace and not really think about communication with the evildoers/saviours.

A MacBook Pro!!! :o

Let us know how it compares to the T60 when you get it. I took a look at the MB Pro about 3 weeks ago... feels very solid and very high quality, though I didn't like the keyboard a whole lot, and the lack of a TrackPoint felt strange.

The display on the MB Pro is VERY nice  The viewing angles aren't FlexView level, but the brightness and sharpness are as good as many desktop LCD displays.

I've taken a(n unfortunately very) close look at the T60p, and also notched up quite some time with the MacBook Pro. I will provide a thorough (and totally not-emotionally-involved anymore) comparison when I get to know the MacBook Pro better.

Complete with radii of the darkened MBP screen corners! :D

Great to hear that Lenovo has finally performed!

When do you get your MacBook Pro? Who did you decide to purchase from?

I am really looking forward to your report.

On paper, it looks like 1--3 business days to ship and 3--5 business days post that to arrive. Which means, 3 + 5 + 'arbitrary undisclosed padding' sounds about reasonable.

I ordered it from Apple computer inc.'s online store; the developer connection store to be precise, to avail my shiny many-hundred dollar discount. That way, I'll feel like I'm doing something smart, and cut them some slack in case of the inevitable screw-up (like it worked with Lenovo!).

Let me get this straight...You returned your Thinkpad because of a negligible flaw in the corner of the screen? Wow.

Pundit --

I had thought you were considering the T60p 14.1" model (which is what I have on order)?

Ah well, in any case, good luck with your new non-Thinkpad purchase.

I returned my ThinkPad because Lenovo didn't tell me it was a common, negligible flaw and one that isn't a problem.

I was seriously considering the 14" T60p until this whole return fiasco came up. I even recall telling the RMA person excitedly that I was itching to order it as soon as this was process.

All that love slowly eroded away over the month filled with confusion.

It's best to just ignore statements such as the one above...

Seriously, while I can appreciate that some folks see this "problem" (or maybe more appropriately called an "artifact" in their eyes) as negligible, I don't see the need to thrust it upon you in such a public manner.

Agreeing to disagree is key here.

seriously, do you really think the return was ibm's fault?

I've done tons of returns with ibm over the past 3 years, not once did I have a problem. I'm sure it's your banking/credit institution. Did you use a debit/check card?

Actually, I while I do agree with the previous member about you returning your laptop for the dark spots; I would've just returned it and not even made a fuss about it. Yes, I probably would've expressed my displeasure about it on the forums, but I would not have talked and talked and talked about it. Other people including myself have told you that it's a design flaw or just normal. It just sounds like a broken record. Return it and get over it. You just didn't like it. After you post your reply to this message, please just end this misery. actually, I probably shouldn't have even prolonged it.

I think it's pretty much pure speculation as to who made the error. I don't see any reason it couldn't be Lenovo/IBM's fault. People seem to often express an idea in this forum that Lenovo/IBM can do no wrong. I don't understand that. They make a very good product and provide pretty good customer service, compared to what's out there. But they are hardly perfect.

This sort of post also baffles me. If you don't care why are you reading this thread let alone posting in it? There are plenty of other threads out there. Let people have the conversations they want to have.

The value of this forum is, _we all_ have different opinions, values, and levels of expertise. We have a common interest and a place to share information. Why not do it in a calm dignified manner?
So rather than making it personal, and being critical of another members thoughts, etc. Why not just celebrate that we have this terrific place to communicate with each other in a mutually beneficial way?

This forum is of great value to the majority of us who participate in the spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance. A resource of knowledge and a perfect environment for learning and growth.

If one does not like the dialog, or chooses to be critical and make things personal & judgmental , go somewhere else.

I've got both a T60 and T60p at the moment (both 15.0) and I don't have that issue on either side of the screen at the moment. I'll see what other units I can dig up from that line and look for it there.

Regards.

Yet another old dig-up - my T60 exhibits the same issue on both corners of the screen, and it just stares in your face, constantly.

I'll see what Lenovo has to say. Sent them a complaint, requesting a FRU, now hopefully they'll agree to it, I dont want to send this T60 back :(

I found that the Z series also had this problem. Its related to the pressure the hinges exert on the display. Slightly twisting the top of the screen modifys the marks.

I never noticed this before I came across this thread. It is a very tiny patch, but it is there. I also see the same on my friend's Z61. I will live with it, though (hoping that it doesn't grow in size). But I must say that the 15" IPS is VERY nice.
