t60p fingerprint reader problem
t60p fingerprint reader problem
hello, all, just got my thinkpad t60p. Trying to set up the fingerprint reader and every time I do it, I get a bad quality sign.. Have tried with different fingers at different speeds... Please help. I hope it is not broken.....
Re: t60p fingerprint reader problem
Mine is (was) very flaky. It would work brilliantly on a few instances, and then not at all for a few. I have no idea what was going on, but it put me off enough to not use it.ayja wrote:hello, all, just got my thinkpad t60p. Happily picks up his three grand; unhappily hands it over to another company.
Re: t60p fingerprint reader problem
I had the exact same experience with my T43 which is why I chose a T60 model without the fingerprint reader.pundit wrote:

Maybe I've just been lucky, but this process has been relatively trouble free on both my 43 and 60.
Some of my fellow T'pad addicts at the office have struggled a bit, but I've give them this advice to seemingly good effect.
-Use only index or middle finger to start out.
-Spread your hand flat (splayed fingers) placing the digit you're using over
the location dot.
-Apply sufficient pressure to see the sides of the finger bulge out slightly.
-Draw the finger across the sensor on a three count.
-Middle finger works best. keeping index and ring fingers in contact with the palm rest while dragging across.
Works every time for me. Good luck

I had held off on using the fingerprint reader thus far because a friend with a T43 had found it to be so unreliable that he had disabled this feature.
But inspired by Scratch's success, I gave it a shot using his suggestions. Works well for me. Thanks for the tip!

I have eczema, where the skin peels from my fingers. The finger print reader will only recognize my little and ring fingers as having finger prints. You can see the finger prints, but the reader will not register the prints, as if you did not even swipe the finger. It took a while for me to figure this out using the tutorial. I thought the reader was broken…that is not the case.

I had the same problem when I was first setting up the fingerprint software an hour ago.
What I discovered was that you (preferrable start with your "pointing" finger) must slowly but firmly "press" the fingerprint scanner while moving your finger down.
Once I figured how it works, it was a breeze.
Hope this helps
