Feeling about T60 14inch XGA+
Feeling about T60 14inch XGA+
I checked a T60 in person. The build quality indeed is very good, at least as good as T4x. There is some improvement. The right edge of keybard above the DVD bay is thicker than that of T4x. So it won't get flexed when one push it. DVD bay is better designed. The hinge is wider than T4x. Hard switch for wireless card is great, especially for those who use laptop on air plane. The IR port was flimsy on my T42 and T43, but not on T60. I think the lid of screen is good but rougher than T4x'. As for keyboard, the feeling is different from my T4x' keyboard but similar to Z60. The T4x's thai-keyboard is stiffer. (I don't know the keyboard on the T60 is a thai-keyboard or not). Now, the memory is under palm rest, but it is not hard to reach. Indeed i kind of like this design. My friend accidentally drop half cup of coffee on his desk and it gets into his T42 from the memory hatch. The machine stopped working. But he is lucky. After a few hours, when it gets dry, the machine works again. Now we don't have memory cover down there, then we don't need to worry about this problem. One thing I don't like about T60, like many others, is Lenovo changed the design of keyboard. They drop the red blue strip on button of touchpad. One can easily guess the reason. The trademark of IBM is red for "I" green for "B" blue for "M". So we have those red and blue on keyboard while LED is green. It looks perfect with black body. Lenovo wants to get rid of IBM, so they get rid of the color first. and bring in Lenovo's own colors silver and light blue (the new volume, power swich ...), though it looks bad with black body. I hope Lenovo will change back. Light color looks strange with black body.

I agree with you on the color scheme... the T60 looks like a great design but I really think Lenovo screwed up with the volume buttons and changing the UltraNav stripes. It just doesn't look as elegant as the T4x.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
Have to agree with you on the buttons. The black ones on the T4X looked so much better. Also the font size on the number keys are now nearly the size of the alphabet keys, which is good in a sense that is more visible, but will take getting used to.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
