How to get the palm rests off..

#31 Post by Bob Morgenthaler » Wed Sep 20, 2006 11:54 pm

I too have the annoying squeak on the front right side (next to the hard drive cover).

I think that the card/tape solutions posted above will do the trick ... but ...

how do you get the palm rests off to fix it??

Are there instructions anywhere?

Thanks

As mentioned in another thread, the palm rest and touchpad of my T43 had major squeaks since the first day I owned the machine. But, just a few minutes ago, I removed both the keyboard and the touchpad and re-installed them, and the problem went away.

Here is a link to some movies that instruct you on how to remove and replace various components like memory, keyboard, palm rests etc.

Thats because the palmrest is removable and its hardly noticeable
But i felt it on my 15 inch T60 1951-CTO however i never felt it
On my brothers 14 inch T60 its normal don't be sensitive.

I bought my T60p in August. I've been pretty happy with it other than the sqeaky palmrest on the extreme sides, except today I found that the upper right corner of the palmrest has cracked! I had read that they tend to squeak on the 15" screen models, so I've just dealt with a little noise and been happy otherwise. The broken part though..I'm not really thrilled with it. At least right now, it looks cosmetic and the corner is completely broken off with no corners at the break, so it doesn't appear that it will spread farther into the palm rest, but I didn't think it was just going to crack like that either.

This computer is possibly worth more than my car, or probably anything else I own combined at the moment. I treat it like it's an armed nuke warhead when I am handling it! No one touches it but me..

Now that it is broken, you can clearly see that the corner in that area is somehow not seated all the way. The part that is broken is now lower than the rest of the palm rest and flush with the keypad trim bezel. It had an extra 500MB of RAM added from a promotional deal when I ordered it, so I think a poor R&R of the palm rest by someone in China is to blame. Is this something I can get replaced under warranty?? Knowing that the fingerprint reader and touchpad are integrated into it leaves me with the impression it won't be a $5 part..thanks for any input!!

Warranty covers parts and labor, you should return it for a complete repair or a whole machine replacement, moreover Lenovo should compensate you because of all the grief this has caused ...

Please post photos of the damaged part...

I have the 15" model and complained to Lenovo about it. I got my palmrest replaced and the squeak is gone. Just open your machine and reseat the palmrest - that will do the trick.
