Case materials - no more titanium?

#1 Post by wpwood3 » Fri Apr 07, 2006 12:05 pm

As far as I know, the T-series has always had either a titanium or magnesium composite top cover and sometimes a titanium reinforced / carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) bottom cover. There was always titanium in there somewhere. Didn't the "T" in T-series originate from the use of titanium in construction?

The new T60 does not contain any titanium at all as far as I can tell.
The lid is still magnesium and the bottom is still CFRP but the titanium reinforcement was replaced by the massive magnesium roll cage.

Maybe it should be the "M" series!

Correct - no more Titanium. I think the T is for thin though, not Titanium.

FYI: The lid in the 15" is CFRP. Only the 14" is Magnesium.

The T is for thin and light (I think).
