USB short-curcuit?

#1 Post by reeves » Fri Apr 07, 2006 2:46 pm

Hi,

after I connected a digital camera to one of the USB ports my T42p shut down an restarted. Since then, the ports do not work anymore: simply nothing happens, or an "unknown device" is said to be attached (USB memory sticks etc. that worked before).

Can anybody help me with the problem? Is it a hardware problem (e.g. short-curcuit)?

Thanks.

This seems to happen a lot, you need a new mobo! It has happened to me as well on my T41, it seems the USB becomes overloaded and then will go to the 1.1 standard. I guess yours went a little further; try removing and re-installing the USB devices under Hardware-Device manager.

Well, I hpoe that its just a software problem.

Under hardware device manager I got a whole bunch of devices
4 USB host controllers (and 4 USB Root Hubs). I deinstalled all 4,
and started a new-hardware-search, which re-installed
the drivers. The problem persists: no response.

Is it possible to disable USB in the BIOS, or even change it from highspeed/lowspeed 2.0/1.1? I don't remember, but it might be worth a shot to reset the ports.

Yes, very good idea. I just tried that.

I disabled USB in the BIOS, started windows, shut-down windows, re-enabled USB... no effect...

Does anybody think it could be a hardware damage problem (overvoltage or whatever)?
