TP 600 USB compatibility

#1 Post by RossNN » Sat Apr 08, 2006 10:03 am

I have a TP 600 using win98SE. USB recognizes some device (e.g., 32 meg Lexar and Gateway flash drives) but not others (e.g., PNY 256 flash drive and several digtal cameras). If I add a hub and plug in a recognized device then it recognizes and works with the others. Is this a machine specific problem and is there something I can change to make it recognize all the devices all the time?

Thanks,

Ross.

I think it's an OS thing. Win 98 still requires drivers for some USB peripherals. Upgrade to Win 2k or XP and most everything should be recognized automatically.

Found the answer. In case it helps someone it was a poor solder joint on the negative pin for the UBS connector. If the device was itself grounded to the shield it worked because an alternate ground was established. If the device ground was isolated from the shield ground the device did not work because there was no negative connection.
