Buying a second hand T40, wondering how i can check if stole

#1 Post by Toine » Sat Apr 08, 2006 7:00 pm

I was wondering if there is a fast way of checking if the laptop is stolen.
If you look up the IBM warranty, will that say anything about stolen laptops or not?

Okay, cool.
I'm going to get a very nice T40 for a steal! I'm so excited.
What would you pay for a 1.5 40gb 512mb T40 with a year of warranty left?

~US$500, or ~EUR420.

Under 650. I got mine for $650 shipped with 80GB and 1GB memory.

I would say $575 is fair considering there are no other upgrades.

Speaking of which, I need another one. Mind telling us where you're getting it?

I'm thinking he's probably getting it from Ebay. I've managed to get some great deals locally through craigslist. I bought my T40P 2373-92U for under $700 back then and just bought a T43 with a 15" display (battery had shown zero in the cycles thingy) for $800.00.

I paid $1049 Australian for my T40 + accessories on Friday - could have gotten cheaper on eBay but in the end I decided that I wanted to find a reputable dealer with one, see it and test it out to make sure I wasn't getting a dud. I'm pleased so far :) So that makes it about $700ish US, I think.

i bought mine for $725 from IBM in January

I wouldnt pay any more than that, I just didnt want to do ebay again since the one i bought for my GF was a little more screwed up than "perfect!" like hte seller claimed (screen wasin poor condition, it had been dropped a few times, palm rest was cracked..). fortunatly, this particular machine was under the TPP and everything was replaced under warranty... but i didnt want to take that chance again.
