Question RE: Screen Hinges on the 14" T60 [More]
One thing that (I think) I've noticed about the new T6X series is that the screen hinges now appear to be the same width on both the 14 and 15 inch models. Obviously, this was always the case with the 15-inch T4X family, but the 14-inch models always had the much narrower right side hinge.
From what I can see in product photos and such, it would appear that this is no longer the case. Am I correct in this? I realize it is a trivial detail, but I'm having a hard time figuring out which model I'm seeing in different product reviews, etc. online. Does the curent 14" T60 have hinges of the same width (L + R) now?
As an aside, I'm still vacillating between the 14- and 15-inch purchase decision. I've had both screen types in the past (15 SXGA+ on the A31, 14 SXGA+ on the T41), and can't quite sort out my feelings on the matter. All I really know is that I've found that -- in either form factor -- SXGA+ is the way to go for me.
My only complaint (if you can call it that) on past models has to do with screen brightness, and for this reason, the 15-inch Flexview seems to be calling my name. It's just hard to trade out from the 14-inch version, because the smaller footprint is just unbelievably convenient -- even if I'm not on the road with the machine all that much.

Much obliged, gents.
A final question for those who may still be following this thead ...
Are there any appreciable/visible differences between the T4X LCD panel (14") and the newer T6X LCD panel (14")? My impression is that they are essentially identical, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has different information.

I am not so sure about that. I played with a Z60t (with two equal width hinges) at Office Depot. While the hinges on my 14.1" T42 is pretty solid, it's miles behind the Z60t. It takes much more force to bend the LCD on the Z60t.darrenf wrote:BTW: The larger size of the right hinge on the 14" (and perhaps the 15"?) is cosmetic. Half of it extends into the battey cavity and doesn't attach to the lower half of the case.

I found similar difference between 14.1" T43 and a 15" T43.

Every ThinkPad seems to have differen tension at the screen hinge. Three different 14" T4x's on my desk have three different amounts of tension. I would agree that 15" screens and the T60s have more tension and that may have something to do with the wider right hinge, but my point is that the right hings is not as heavily anchored to the base as it appears to be.

Got myself a ThinkPad 600E with broken hinges, can I repair old hinges instead of buying new ones?
